Ecology: Species ocean surface and migratory. Form large schools in open seas. During the summer spawning season, small schools are approaching the coast. It feeds on fish, squid and crustaceans. The meat is not widely appreciated and has no commercial value, but may be found sporadically in fish markets. The major consumer is the canning industry. It is important in the ocean sport fishing, especially by the voracity with which attacks several types of baits.

Description: fish scales, body elongated and fusiform. It has two dorsal fins, very close to one another. The color is dark blue, with 5-11 dark oblique lines on the back and part of the sidewall. The flanks and belly are silvery. Reaches 1m in total length and about 11kg.

Geographical Distribution: North, Northeast, Southeast and South (Amapá to Rio Grande do Sul).

Equipment: Equipment for medium action, lines 0.35 to 0.45 lbs. and No. 1/0-5/0 hooks.

Baits: Baits artificial surface or half water, natural baits, especially fish, dead or alive.
